welcome

I'm a Los Angeles-based web developer. I've been building dynamic websites using PHP, Perl and SQL since 1996. Here are a few:

The Winter Sounds

A terrific indie band out of the Research Triangle, the Winter Sounds now have two great albums to their name, Porcelain Empire, and The Church of the Haunted South.

The site I built them gives them full control over their web presence, and a direct line to communicate with their fan base.

Trailers From Hell

Trailers From Hell is a site where well-known genre filmmakers talk about beloved movies from the past.

The site includes a multimedia content management system, which takes movies and images uploaded in any format and converts them to the correct format to be served on the site.

I built the site; the artwork was done by the brilliant Charlie Largent.

Harmony And Me

Harmony and Me is a very funny film by Robert Byington. With this site I'm using a lot of jQuery to add animation and interactivity on top of the usual CMS-controlled content.

Suzy Nakamura

Suzy's a terrific actress and comedienne. This site allows her to post her own headshots and clips.

Hollywood Media District

The Hollywood Media District seeks to beautify and improve central Hollywood. The site provides a hub for information and news about the district.

Jane Austen Addict

A promotional website for the novel Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler. As with most of the sites I build, this site includes a custom content management system.

It's a great read. You should check it out

dGenerate Films

dGenerate Films is devoted to bringing films of the Chinese underground film movement to screens in the US and around the world.

This is a WordPress installation with a custom theme and some additional code.

Ballast

Lance Hammer's film Ballast won the directing and cinematography awards at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. Even though he received offers from distributors, he decided his options were better if he self-distributed. BallastFilm.com is an integral part of Ballast's distribution.

NewArtTV

NewArtTV is a video podcasting site, conducts interviews and studio visits with leaders of the contemporary art scene.

Pooch Partner

Yeah, that's right--dog dating!

Roman Jakobi

Roman Jakobi is a cinematographer. I built this site to give him a simple way to post samples of his work, and to keep his bio and resume updated.

He can upload videos in nearly any format; I have FFMPEG set up on the server to convert his videos to FLV for web presentation, so he doesn't have to worry about such things.

Don't Come Knocking

"Don't Come Knocking" is a film directed by Wim Wenders and written by and starring Sam Shepard.

My friend Oliver Rossberg did the design of the site; I just did the interactive bits, like the calendar interface for the Daily Production Diary and the Crew Movies.

Zoetrope

Zoetrope.com is the web presence of American Zoetrope, Francis Ford Coppola's San Francisco-based film production company. From 1997 until 2004 I was the webmaster for all of the Coppola Companies; during those years this site was the central project of my life.

Zoetrope.com contains a great deal of functionality. It has a database of films produced by Zoetrope, and a section devoted to promoting the Zoetrope post production facility in San Francisco.

The largest part of the site is the Virtual Studio. The Virtual Studio allows writers, photographers, composers and other artists to submit their work to Zoetrope. For every work you submit you have to review several submissions by other members. So everyone gets feedback on his or her work, and the Zoetrope staff can look through the highest-rated submissions for stories and screenplays they may want to publish or produce.

Each member of the Virtual Studio gets his own private office, where he can share files and participate in discussions with the members he invites. The site also has Producers Bungalows, private areas where producers can collaborate with filmmakers on actual productions.

The site also includes a web-based contest system. Screenwriters submit their screenplays to the screenwriting contest, and pay their fees online through a custom e-commerce system. An administrative backend distributes the screenplays to staff for reading and rating.

For the first few years of its operation I oversaw a team of developers and content managers. For the last few years I ran the site entirely by myself, and during that time completely redesigned and reporgrammed it. The site as you see it now is entirely my work; I designed it and did all of the programming in Perl and SQL.

Zoetrope: All-Story

The web presence of Francis Coppola's quarterly literary magazine, Zoetrope: All-Story.

The site includes a custom-built content management system that allows magazine staff to control site content through a web-based administartive site. it also contains a custom-built ecommerce system that allows visiotrs to subscribe to the magazine, renew subscriptions, and buy single issues online.

The site runs on Windows servers using IIS and Microsoft SQL Server. I designed the site and programmed it in Perl and SQL.
